about

On 2 June 2021, we had in the MSF office a moment of silence and remembrance of a tragic incident that occurred in Afghanistan on 2 June 2004.
On that day, a serious incident occurred in the north-western Province of Badghis in Afghanistan in which we lost 5 of our colleagues.

At that time I was working in Afghanistan, but in a different part of the country, in Kabul.
In the aftermath of this tragedy, MSF decided to close all medical activities in Afghanistan after 24 years of humanitarian aid in the country. I was then among those who had the difficult task of closing or handing over all projects, which MSF had in 12 Provinces of Afghanistan. This was very sad as we all felt we were leaving behind many people in need.
5 years later, MSF resumed its activities in the country.

While working on this album, I thought of that day 17 years ago and what followed. I remember the shock when I heard about this tragedy. and I keep thinking about the 5 colleagues we lost in this incident.

I dedicate this Album in deep thoughts to Helene, Willem (Pim), Faisal, Egil and Besmillah, who lost their lives in the terrible attack.

I also dedicate this album to all those who lost their lives while working with MSF during the past 50 years.

And I dedicate the music as well to all those who continue to do great humanitarian work with MSF.
